However if you would like to start seeing some dramatic improvements in the SERPs for specific keywords then you have to do more than just link build with targeted anchor text.

Yes targeted anchor text is good, but there is such thing as over optimization, and though it may be a lot harder for Google to pick up on it when it comes to link building as opposed to over optimizing content (think the Panda update and what it did to the content mills of the world that were over optimizing).

Jumping from page to page can mean a lot of different things when you are in the middle of a link building campaign, or any other SEO campaign for that matter. You will want to remember that Google does at least one algorithm change per day, and over 400 per year, so what you are seeing in the search engines, whether it be improvement or not, may have nothing to do at all with what you are doing, but what Google is doing that day.

You should also know that jumping from say, page 15 to page 11 is a lot easier than jumping from page 5 to 1 in the SERPs. The higher you get up in the SERPs the harder it gets to outrank your competition. In fact, it gets exponentially harder.

The closer and closer you get to the top of the SERPs, the more and more the little things matter. I have been thinking of Google Webmaster Tools lately as JR from Internet Marketing Strategies) has written a fabulous article covering the tool. He describes the 6 tabs on the tool one by one and covers some tips on why and how to use GWT.

As i mentioned to JR every time i read a new article on GWT, i learn something new. I wouldn’t necessarily describe GWT as super advanced, but it isn’t exactly child’s play either. Some level of webmastering is required.

I want to get to the bottom of one thing within GWT: robot.txt

The what, who, when, why, and how? Feel free to share your tips and experiences below. When i go to Google Webmaster Tools, i notice a few things in the overview section. (see screenshot below)

It seems this blog has 19 not found URL’s and 2 URL’s restricted by robots.txt

What does this mean? How do i fix it? Feel free to weigh in below in comments.

The blog initially was at PR 4, then down to 0, now sits at PR 2.  Pagerank is pretty much like a roller coaster ride, up and down, and side to side. Regardless i’m happy with the current status of the blog, and as i’m being ever more vigilant of what i slap on it, the rank should only get better.
