One way around the “newbie” part is to network with the bloggers you want to guest post on outside of their blogs. For example, I am friends with most of the bloggers that I guest post on through twitter, Facebook and Google+, as well as on Skype. We chat, swap stories, share each others content, and work together to build both of our blogs so sharing a guest post becomes just another part of the relationship.

I have found that by building a relationship with someone FIRST, they are more open to giving you a shot.

Another thing you can do is use their comments or forums if they have one and help their readers by freely giving your advice. If you are helping their customers, they will be eager to something in return to help you most of the time.

I agree, all one needs to track written and submitted guest posts is a simple spreadsheet made with Google Docs or any word processor. If you write many, then it pays to keep track of them otherwise you will forget to follow up and with whom. Lol. So keeping good track is key.

That will save so much time, which means more time spent creating epic guest posts! I keep a detailed Google spreadsheet of all my guest posts, ideas, editor notes, links and such. This has really helped me focus in on what I want to get out of the guest post strategy and which sites were a hit or miss (which helps me narrow down what’s working and what’s not).
